Guest Post//Braided Fabric Necklace DIY

Hi everyone! I'm Brenna from The Ol' Stitcharoo Guest posting for my lovely sister Liz while she's on a mini vaca with her family! I've decided to share a little DIY with you guys.

I've been wanting to make one of these necklaces, so this gave me an excuse to actually do it.

These neclaces turned out to be super easy and a ton of fun ...and just so happen to be adorable!
You can also make headbands bracelets, etc... Be creative!

Step One:
Choose 3 different fabrics for each braid strand, depending on how many strands you want to do, I did 2 strands (see the picture above). It doesn't matter what pattern they are because you won't be able to see it, just the colors.

Step Two:
Cut your fabric in to strips that are 1 inch wide. To make more of a nice frayed look you can rip them. Make the length at least a yard. Longer is better.

Step Three:
Sew the ends of three strips together with one quick seam (this will not be the final seam so it doesn't need to be very strong). Braid the pieces very tight. I safety pin the beginning of the braid to my jeans so that I can braid it nice and tight. You can also use a clip board.

Step Four:
Keep braiding until your desired length. I did my short braid 24" and the long one 27". Cut the remainder fabric off and sew another seam to the end to hold it together.

Step Five:
After you are done with all of your layers, overlap all the ends and pin together to make the shape of a necklace and sew them all together with a nice strong stitch. You might want to use a zig-zag stitch for extra strength. Trim the random strands sticking out of the braids ...and you're done!
Also this project is extremely easy to sew, so if you don't have a sewing machine, no worries! Hand sewing it is almost just as easy.

Have fun!!
