How We Met V.1

If you're married (or have a bf of gf) you've probably been asked more than once how you met. There are a lot of very interesting, very beautiful, and funny stories out there. It's one of the most important and exciting time of our lives. I love so many of the ones I've heard from friends and family. I'm not sure how long or how often it will be, but I'd like to start having people share their stories on here in a series of post with stores from couples of how they met, fell in love, etc. Naturally I'll start with the whole story of me and my husby. So many people have asked me so I thought it would be easier to just write every part of it down to ware I don't miss any of it. Our story isn't super unusual or exciting, but it's still a part of me, so here it goes.
We saw each other very irregularly for about a year through mutual friends. We knew each other through a band that my brother-in-law was in, but I don't think we even officially met and talked for quite some time. On a little band tour I took with them in the state we were able to get to know each other the most, I think. While the others were off doing things on the trip my sister, Brenna, and I were pretty bored at one point, so David (my now husband) offered to hang out with us at a coffee shop. He didn't even drink coffee at the time, but we had a lot of fun talking and laughing with him. He seemed like a good friend, but I didn't picture myself ever going out with him. When it was time to head back home he asked if he could ride in my car with Brenna, Chase(my BIL), and me. The whole ride seemed so short because we talked so much. When we were back and had gotten back to our normal lives and jobs David always came into my work, wanted to hang out, or take me to lunch. I tried to refuse a lot of times, but he really is just too sweet! We started hanging out SO much, that he became my best friend. We did everything together and had a lot of fun. He asked me pretty often if we could go out, but I still didn't want to. I don't know if it was because of a recent heart break or if I still couldn't picture myself going out with him, but I still didn't want to. Over time he slowly stopped talking about becoming boyfriend and girlfriend and started mentioning marriage. I though he was crazy and laughed almost every time he mentioned it.
One day I went on a week vacation to go see family out of state and the entire next week David was gone to go see family out of state. So it was two weeks altogether. It was defiantly the longest we had been without each other since we got to know each other. I began to miss him... A LOT. And I told my self that I really didn't like being without him and decided that maybe getting married wasn't such a crazy idea after all.
The day that he got back from his trip one of the first things I said was, "Let's get married." He excitedly asked, "OK, when?" I replied, "Today."
"OK!" So that day we went to the court house to fill out our marriage license, found out he had no ID, snuck David's old, expired passport from his parents house, went back down, filled it out, set an appointment with a judge, and David asked my dads permission. My dad was the only one that knew what we were about to do and of course was very shocked. We wanted to wait to tell everyone else until after. We met the judge at a park and he did the whole ceremony, but it was just a jeans and tee shirt sort of deal. The only other person there was a cute, little boy in a tree sitting there watching us. Right after, we went to a musical show that David was supposed to learn to play the drums for. Then we decided to go tell all our friends. As we walked into their door though we were surprised with balloons, silly string, and yelling. Somehow the word had gotten out and all our friends were there to surprise and congratulate us. We all went out to eat to celebrate and had an amazing time. It was one of the best days!  xo -Liz

  2. Hi Liz,

I agree with Brenna ... I think your story is exciting and unusual. However, David's Great Grandparents also eloped, and they were married 70 years! :-) Maybe I will send you their story someday ... although it might be too long for this. Or I might send ours, but it takes time to write it down like you did.

    Thanks for this idea!

  3. Lizz being the trickster (for lack of a better word) of the family, my mom didn't believe her until after she talked to our Grandma, and then my aunt, and Liz'z mom. Personally I think it was perfect the place that she told us. We were in line at the grocery store, next to the *star* and all those other mags, that gossip about peoples love life's. If she was famous, this defiantly would have bean one of those stories that would have bean titled "star struck lovers elope!" or "the fairy tail beginning?" Personally I was still confused on the matter until I read your blog just now. Love you Liz.

  4. This is difinately a different love story. I've always tried to help my kids "think outside the box" but I think they sometimes go a little much "away from the box" LOL! Anyhow, I think your love story is perfect for you two and I believe if you had an official engagement you would have "chickened out" because many things if you think about it too much you usually don't do it for one reason or another. "Spur in the moment" is best with you. love ya, mom
